After Reporting Your Loss To Us,
Here’s What You Can Do To Help

Protect Your Home From Further Damage

You may find it necessary to take immediate steps to prevent further damage. Your policy will pay for “reasonable temporary or permanent repairs confined solely to protecting property from further damage.” You may choose a contractor or make these repairs yourself. In either case, save all bills and keep an accurate record of expenses in order to file a claim for them.
Obtain an Estimate

Ask your contractor for a complete estimate of the cost to repair all damage related to the loss. Such an estimate should include:

  • A complete breakdown of the damaged area(s).
  • An itemized list that specifies the quantity and cost of materials needed for repairs.
  • The amount and cost of labor to do each part of the job.
  • Separate Damaged and Undamaged Property

Your claim adjuster will need to inspect all damaged property. If you are in doubt about any item, include it with the damaged property.
    Itemize Your Contents Loss

Your claim adjuster will give you a Statement of Loss form to help you itemize all damaged personal property. You should begin to fill out this form as soon as possible. Information you will need to gather in order to complete this form include:

  • A description of the damaged or destroyed property (manufacturer or brand name and place of purchase, if known.)
  • The age or approximate date of purchase.
  • The cost to replace each item at today’s prices.

  • Remember to list only damaged items for which you intend to file a claim.
Give All Necessary Information and Details

You will have to give your claim adjuster much of the information needed to process your loss.
