Use the following tips to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of Identity Theft:
- Keep an eye on your credit card when you hand it to store clerks or wait staff.
- Limit the identification information and the number of credit and debit cards that you carry to what you will actually need.
- Be aware of possible eavesdroppers nearby when you are giving out personal information over the phone or in a public place.
- Don't give out personal information through the mail, on the phone or over the Internet unless you've initiated the contact.
- Guard your mail and trash from theft.
- Remove mail from your mailbox promptly.
- Keep your Social Security card in a secure place and give your Social Security number only when absolutely necessary.
- Keep your purse or wallet in a safe place at work.
